Hambone Body Percussion is an African American art from that grew out from enslaved Africans' preservation and practice of African drumming traditions. It is a continuing practice and celebration of the resilience of African Americans and remembrance of the painful history of slavery and oppression in the Americas. It connects all people together at the root through the shared rhythm of the heartbeat. Learning history and techniques of hambone body percussion that can serve to teach rhythm, group cohesion, an additional skill to add to performance, and cultural connections to the performing arts.
